Man hospitalised after armed officers storm city street following knife incident reports

A man has been taken to hospital following reports of suffering knife wounds on City Road, Cardiff .

Armed officers were called to the area near Blue Honey Local and Express Imaging at 6.15pm last night following an alleged assault.

A spokeswoman for South Wales Police said: "The nature of the man's injury suggested that the incident involved a weapon."

It is understood that weapon was a blade.

Police have confirmed they sent armed officers to the scene due to the 'nature of a man's injuries."

The man was taken by ambulance to the University Hospital of South Wales for treatment.

Witnesses described seeing armed police at the scene last night, which was cordoned off by police officers from the Roath Park pub to the Royal George Pub for almost three hours.

Seren Kitchener, who lives above a shop in City Road, said she and her housemates were stuck in the police corden.

She said: “Our house is in the middle of the corden and it has been going on for an hour at least.

“They have the corden and there’s a bus stuck in the middle of it. there were multiple ambulances and there’s five police cars here.

“There were multiple armed police officers coming in and out of a shop.

“It’s a bit disconcerting but we’ve made sure all the doors are locked.”

Another witness reported seeing officers searching the ground in the area.

Harry Bligh, who was at the scene, said: “I was on a bus and lots of police cars were going past and the bus couldn’t get through.

“I got off the bus and thought I would investigate , police are still here and someone was taken away in an ambulance.”

An investigation has been launched and police are urging any witnesses with information to contact 101 giving reference 449759.
