A man was hospitalized Sunday following a police-involved shooting in Gary, police said.
About 5 p.m., officers responded to the 2400 block of Roosevelt Street after reports of an armed man, according to a statement from a Gary police spokeswoman.
As officers arrived, they attempted to disarm the man using verbal commands, but he refused to comply and shots were fired, the police spokeswoman said. Although it is not known if he was struck by gunfire, the spokeswoman said he was taken to the hospital for treatment.
No officers were injured in the shooting, the police spokeswoman said. The Lake County Sheriff’s Department is expected to continue the investigation.
