Man hoping to beat London Marathon world record by wearing Formula 1 racing gear

The London Marathon returns this weekend and if you thought the gruelling 26-mile sprint wasn't challenging enough, one man is attempting to complete the course dressed head to toe in F1 racing gear.

George Crawford, 29, is running on behalf of the mental health charity, Mind, and is looking to set the world record for fastest time in full Formula One racing gear - that's including an under layer, suit, gloves, helmet and even boots.

Joking that he will be moving at a much slower speed than his kit is used it, George revealed on his JustGiving page that his outfit was given to him by Aston Martin. And not only that, it is the exact kit used by driver Lance Stroll.

Drumming up support on Reddit, his brother shared George's story where it received a huge wave of support. However many had concerns about the Birmingham runner's feet.

Well-wisher, HERCULESxMULLIGAN, said: "Pouring one out for your feet. Good luck, homie."

While another user, cbung, said simply: "Insoles of some kind???"

In response George explained that without the boots the record attempt would be invalid.

He said: "I’m very aware that my feet will probably be destroyed after this and would love to have some proper runners on but conditions on the world record attempt being legit won’t allow anything other than racing boots."

Top commenter, Miss-Militia, quipped: "Good on you mate, just chucked you a tenner. Did you not think of politely requesting a DB11 too? Would've got you round the 26 miles much more quickly."
