Man hits worker with weapon before fleeing with cash from Wishaw town centre cafe

Police are appealing for information following a robbery at a café on Stewarton Street in Wishaw.

The incident happened around 10.40pm on Sunday, April 12.

An unidentified man entered the premises and threatened staff with a tyre iron.

He struck a female member of staff with the tool before leaving, having stolen a sum of cash worth an approximate mid-three figure sum.

The woman suffered injuries to her arms which did not require hospital treatment.

The man is described as being white, around 5ft 11in tall and of athletic build. He was wearing a black zip hooded top, black jeans or tracksuit bottoms and a balaclava.

Detective Sergeant Derrick Lunan, of Wishaw CID, said: “It is fortunate that the woman involved was not seriously injured in this incident.

“Extensive enquiries are ongoing to identify this man and we would urge anyone who may be able to help to come forward as soon as possible.

“In particular we would be keen to speak to anyone who may have dashcam footage or private CCTV of the area between 10.20pm and 10.45pm on Sunday.

“Anyone with information can contact police by calling 101, quoting incident 4143 of 12 April or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
