Man hit with bottle outside McDonald's in 'vicious and unprovoked attack'

A man was hit over the head with a bottle in a 'vicious and unprovoked' attack in Kirkby.

The victim, in his 50s, needed hospital treatment for his injuries after the incident outside McDonald's, in Kirkby Town Centre.

Police confirmed they were called to reports of a man being attacked outside the fast food restaurant, in Irlan Road, at around 9pm on Sunday, May 30.

Detectives investigating the assault have now released CCTV image of a man they believe could help.

Jackie Guinness, detective inspector at Merseyside police, said: "We think the man pictured may have vital information to help our enquiries, so if you know him come forward.

"This appears to have been a vicious and unprovoked attack, which thankfully didn’t result in more serious injuries, as it easily could have done.

"We will act on what you tell us so speak to us directly or anonymously through Crimestoppers, which is completely independent of police."

Contact police via social media on Twitter @MerPolCC or Facebook 'Merseyside Police Contact Centre' with reference 21000350291.

You can also contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, or via their online form at: https://crimestoppers-uk.org/give-information/give-information.
