Man hit over the head with a sign after row in the street

A heated row between two men ended with one of them being hit over the head with a sign.

Officers were called to a report of a man with a head injury in Moreton, Wirral, at around 7.50pm yesterday (Thursday).

A police cordon was set up outside the shops on the Sandbrook estate, at the junction of Cherry Tree Road and Chapel Hill Road.

It was reported that, following an altercation between two men, one of them was hit over the head with a sign by a man who left the scene on foot.

Emergency services attended and a man in his 40s was taken to hospital for injuries to his face which are not life threatening.

CCTV, forensic and witness enquiries into the incident are ongoing and anyone with any information is asked to contact police.

Inspector Michael Fletcher said: "We are carrying out enquiries into a reported assault in Moreton last night and would appeal for anyone who witnessed the incident or with any information to come forward.

"If you were in the Chapel Hill Road area yesterday evening and saw anything or anyone suspicious then please let us know as information you hold could be vital to our enquiries."
