Man hit on head with hammer during 'violent' attack in Bingham

A man was taken to hospital after he was hit on the head with a hammer in a 'violent' attack.

The assault is thought to have happened in Station Street, Bingham, near the town's train station, at around 11.30pm on Friday (July 2).

The victim was reportedly involved in an altercation with a man before he was assaulted.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment. His injuries are not currently believed to be life-threatening.

Detective Constable Georgina Gallagher, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was an extremely serious and violent incident.

"We do not underestimate the impact this type of violence has on people and we would like to reassure the public that we will leave no stone unturned to locate those responsible.

“We believe this was not a random attack and that the victim and suspect are known to each other.

“We also believe there were lots of witnesses to this attack.

"I’m urging anyone who saw what happened, or who may have recorded footage, to please come forward and speak to us as they may have vital information to help shed light on the circumstances.

“I would like to reassure the public that this was an isolated incident and we are doing everything possible to ensure the offender is brought to justice.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the force on 101, quoting incident 998 of July 2.

Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
