A man died several days after he was hit by a truck last week in west suburban Melrose Park.
The 58-year-old was walking in the median of Mannheim Road near Armitage Avenue when the truck hit him about 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 25, according to Melrose Park police spokesman Andrew Mack. He was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where he underwent surgery.
The man, who lived in Norwood Park, was pronounced dead at 4:10 p.m. on Monday, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. An autopsy found he died of multiple blunt-force injuries and ruled his death an accident.
The driver of the truck, a 40-year-old man, stayed at the scene and tried to help the man after the crash, Mack said. He was issued citations for failure to exercise due care for a pedestrian in the roadway and driving without a license.
