Man hit by train at Motherwell station rushed to hospital with 'serious injuries'

A man is seriously injured after being hit by a train in North Lanarkshire.

We told how police put Motherwell Train Station on lockdown after reports of an incident on Friday evening.

Officers confirmed on Saturday morning that a man had been struck by a train.

British Transport Police and ambulance crews were called to the scene to assist cops.

The man was rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

His current condition is yet to be confirmed.

The horror incident, at around 8.40pm, sparked delays for rail passengers in the area.

ScotRail services running through Motherwell were either delayed or changed in the wake of the crash.

A statement was released on ScotRail's official Twitter account on Friday.

It read: “We've received reports of an ongoing incident in the Motherwell area.

“We're working closely with the emergency services at this time and will update you once we have more information from the grounds.

“Services via Motherwell are being delayed or altered as a result.”

Police were called to the scene at around 8.40am.

A Police Scotland spokesman told the Record: “Police Scotland was called to Motherwell Railway Station around 8.40pm on Friday, April 2 following a report that a male had been struck by a train.

"British Transport Police and the Scottish Ambulance Service also attended and he was taken to hospital with serious injuries.”
