Man hit by train at Mossley Hill station

A man has been hit by a train at Mossley Hill station sparking cancellations and hours of disruption.

The man was found on the tracks and rushed to hospital just before 12 noon today.

British Transport Police confirmed the man was "hit by a train".

The severity of his injuries are not known.

Police have ruled out foul play.

As a result of the incident rail officials warned of cancellations and said disruption affecting trains between Liverpool Lime Street and Warrington Central could continue until at least 2pm.

A British Transport Police spokesman told the ECHO: "British Transport Police were called at 11.50am to Mossley Hill station following a report of a casualty on the tracks."

He added: "A man has been taken to hospital. The incident is not being treated as suspicious."

Northern told customers: "Following the emergency services dealing with an incident between Liverpool Lime Street and Warrington Central all lines are now open.

"Train services running to and from these stations may be cancelled. Disruption is expected until 2pm."

But they added: "Trains are now able to call at stations between Liverpool Lime Street and Warrington Central as normal."

A North West Ambulance spokeswoman said one ambulance arrived at 11.53am and "a male patient has been taken to hospital".
