Man hit by police van as officers respond to 'altercation' outside Stockport pub

A man was hit by a police van after officers were called to reports of an altercation between a group of men in Stockport.

Officers were called to a pub - understood to be the Elizabethan - on Heaton Moor Road just after 7pm on Sunday (30 May).

An altercation between a group of men had taken place near to the venue, GMP said.

No serious injuries were reported.

As police responded to the disturbance, a 35-year-old man was hit by a police van, the force said.

He was not seriously injured during the collision, they confirmed.

Two men - aged 25 and 57 - have been arrested on suspicion of assault.

They remain in custody waiting to be quizzed by detectives.

An investigation has been launched by Greater Manchester Police, with enquiries said to be ongoing.

A spokesperson for GMP said: "Police were called to an establishment on Heaton Moor Road in Stockport just after 7pm on Sunday 30 May to reports of an altercation involving a group of men.

"There were no serious injuries, and two men aged 25 and 57 have been arrested on suspicion of assault, and remain in custody for questioning.

"While responding to the incident, a 35-year old man was involved in a collision with a police van, and also has no serious injuries.

"Enquiries are on-going."
