A busy road has been closed in both directions after a teenage boy was hit by a lorry this morning.
The serious incident, on Merton Road in Bootle, prompted a huge emergency response.
A Merseyside Police spokeswoman told the ECHO: "At around 9am, officers and the ambulance service were called to the junction of Stanley Road and Merton Road to reports of a collision involving a male pedestrian and a lorry.

"The pedestrian has been taken to hospital for assessment of his injuries."
North West Ambulance Service said a teenage boy was taken to hospital after suffering serious injuries.
Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service were also called to the scene, though no action was required from firefighters, and crews left the scene at 9.21am.
People are being warned of traffic delays and diversions.
Travel monitoring site Inrix says: "Merton Road is closed in both directions, slow traffic due to an accident between Stanley Road and Hawthorne Road"
Earlier this morning, Arriva North West tweeted: "Due to RTC on Merton road service #60 will divert in both directions via Stanley road, Balliol road.
"Service #58 in both directions via Stanley road, Balliol road."
