Man hit by car outside busy nightclub in Pentre reveals his 'life changing' injuries

A support worker from Treherbert has been left with "life changing" injuries after being hit by a car outside a nightclub.

Luke Matthews was celebrating his cousin's birthday at The Banc night club on Llewellyn Street, Pentre, when he was hit by a car at about 1.30am on Sunday, June 9 .

Luke, 25, was left with multiple broken bones after the incident, as well as a smashed foot.

"I came home from Prince Charles Hospital yesterday," he said. "Before that, I was at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital.

"My right foot was smashed and they had to rebuild all that. It was just a mess.

"The doctors told me my foot would never be the same again and I'll have arthritis and I will have a limp.

"I also snapped my left arm and they had to put it back into place before surgery.

"I also had a broken nose and had cuts and bruises everywhere."

Luke said he was also suffering more than just physical injuries as well.

"It's affected me mentally because I can't get to sleep at night," he said.

"It repeats in my head all the time.

"It's like I'm having flashbacks and I'm shouting during my sleep."

Luke said he now faces three months off from work as a support worker as he gets better.

He said he was also devastated that his friend Ben was still in hospital.

" I've been thinking about him a lot," he added. "It upsets me quite a lot."

South Wales Police  said a 30-year-old man has been arrested and charged with two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to provide a specimen for analysis.

Adam Taylor, who is from Williamstown, appeared before  Merthyr Magistrates Court  on Monday, June 10, where he was remanded in custody.

He will now appear at Merthyr Crown Court on July 8.
