Man killed by car on M4 near Swansea was crossing from the central reservation

A man who died on the M4 was most likely killed after being struck by a vehicle while crossing from the central reservation.

Colin Roberts, from Ystradgynlais , died just before 4.30pm on October 30, between junctions 47 and 48.

The stretch of road between Swansea and Llanelli was closed for six hours while emergency services dealt with the incident, causing long tailbacks for motorists.

An inquest into the death of the 69-year-old was opened and adjourned at Swansea Civic Centre today, pending further investigations.

Acting senior coroner for Swansea and Neath Port Talbot , Colin Phillips, said: “Investigations are ongoing but it appears that Mr Roberts has been struck by a vehicle whilst crossing from the central reservation”.

Following his death, his family paid tribute to the ‘larger than life character’ .

In a statement they said: “Colin or ‘Col Boy’, as he was known to many, was a larger than life character. He would do anything for anybody and in fact sometimes we used to think he did too much.

“To lose him in these circumstances is heartbreaking, when he had so much to live for and so much more to give.

“We wanted to thank everybody who has contacted the family with their love and support. It fills our hearts knowing that he was so loved by so many”.
