Police have launched a probe after man was hit by a car on a Scots street before a motor was pulled from a canal in two incidents believed to be linked.
Officers were called to a 'disturbance', which the force say 'involved a number of people', at Beaufort Gardens, Beauly in the Highlands around 7.45pm last night.
A 38-year-old man was taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness for treatment to serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle during the incident.
Police were then called to a reports of a car entering the Caledonian Canal near Muirtown Basin in Inverness around 8.55pm last night.
Diver and marine units recovered the car this afternoon and it's been confirmed that nobody was inside.
Officers are now appealing for information over the two incidents, which are being treated as linked.
Detective Sergeant Louise Thewlis said: “Our enquiries into these incidents are ongoing and we are treating them as linked.
“Our investigation so far suggests this was a targeted incident and there was no threat to the wider public.
“I would urge anyone with information which could help our enquiries to get in touch.
