Man hit by a car as he walked to pub on day it reopened refused to go to hospital - so he could go for a pint

A man who was hit by a car as he walked to the pub on the day they reopened refused to go to hospital so he could enjoy a pint.

Lewis Povey was on his way to a boozer in Warrington on Monday, April 12, when he was hit by a black BMW, CheshireLIve reports.

The 30-year-old was thrown into the air and suffered from head, leg and back injuries.

But despite emergency services advising him to go to hospital for treatment, he carried on to the Original Wire pub and enjoyed a drink as planned.

He later underwent a scan at Whiston Hospital on Friday (April 16) to check for a bleed on the brain, but was given the all clear.

Cheshire Police confirmed that no arrests were made relating to the crash, the driver having been spoken to by officers at the scene.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: "At around 8.45pm on Monday, April 12, police received a report of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian in the Winwick Road area.

"Officers attended and discovered that the incident involved a black BMW car and a 30-year-old man from Warrington.

"The pedestrian and the driver of the car were spoken to at the scene.

"No-one needed to go to hospital, and no arrests were made."
