Man hit armed burglar round the head with a pole during break-in in Beeston

A man hit an armed burglar with a wooden pole as he tried to defend his home in Beeston.

Police were called to Anderson Crescent at about 7.50pm on Saturday, October 18, following the incident with the burglar, who was carrying a sledgehammer.

The man reported hearing someone enter his home and he then hid upstairs, before confronting the suspect, who threatened him, and hitting him round the head with the object.

The suspect dropped his sledgehammer and nothing was taken from the property, according to Nottinghamshire Police, who confirmed the victim was also not injured.

Nottinghamshire Police Detective Sergeant Gary Hewson said: "This is a very concerning incident which has left a young man very shaken.

"We have lots of inquiries to continue to work through today and my team will continue to work on this around the clock.

"It's completely unacceptable for offenders to charge into someone’s home and threaten the person who lives there. No one should be made to feel unsafe in their own house."

The suspect is described as white, around 35-40 years old, of a large build and around 5ft 10ins tall.

Anyone with information should call police on 101 and quote incident number 685 of October 17. You can also call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
