Man 'high on drugs' found guilty of caravan murder

A man has been found guilty of murder following a horrific attack on a man in a Shirebrook caravan.

Leon Smith, 28, of Alder Way, Shirebrook, was found guilty of murder following an eight-week trial at Derby Crown Court.

The body of Andrew Jackson, who was 55 years old, was discovered on January 26 last year at an allotment, off Prospect Drive, where he lived in a caravan.

Detectives say Smith, an amphetamine and cocaine user, was high on drugs at the time and had told a witness that evening that he “intended to kill someone".

On Tuesday (December 7), Smith was found guilty of murder.

He will be sentenced on Wednesday (December 8).

During the trial, the jury heard how Mr Jackson suffered almost 40 separate injuries and was ultimately killed by a stab wound to his leg.
