A man was being quizzed on suspicion of murder today after a woman was found dead at her flat in Battersea.

The 41-year-old man was arrested last night.

Police discovered the body of Antoinette Donnegan, 52, at a block of flats in Este Road seven days ago.

Her death brought the number of homicides in London this year to 25.

A neighbour said: “She was a nice, normal lady. The police as far as we know had never been to the flat before and she was a good neighbour. This is a nice block.”

Ms Donnegan, originally from Ireland, had lived alone in the two-bedroom ground-floor apartment.

Detective Chief Inspector John Massey, of the homicide squad, said: “We are keen to speak with anyone who may have been in contact with Antoinette in mid- to late-January this year or visited her at her home address during this time.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the incident room on 020 8721 4868.
