Man held on suspicion of arson as two cars torched in the night

A man is being held on suspicion of arson after two cars were set on fire outside of a Formby home.

Police confirmed a 46-year-old man from Sefton was arrested after emergency services rushed to Queens Road at about 2.30am this morning.

Photos from the scene showed a blacked out shell of a car outside of someone's home after firefighters battled to stop the fire.

A police cordon was also put up outside of a home after the blaze.

Officers said the fire also managed to damage the front door of a home.

Both the police and fire service are investigating the car fires.

A spokesman for the police said: "We arrested a man after it was reported two cars were set on fire outside a house in Formby in the early hours of today (Tuesday 31 March 2020).

"Merseyside Police and Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service were called at 2.30am to a report two vehicles outside a property on Queens Road had been set light. The fire also damaged the front door of the property.

"A 46-year-old man from Sefton has since been arrested on suspicion of arson. He has been taken to a police station to be interviewed about the incident.

"A joint police and fire service investigation is ongoing.
