Man held in Pune on charge of raping infant

PUNE: The Pimpri Chinchwad police on Monday night arrested a 25-year-old construction worker on the charge of sexually assaulting a two-year-old girl at an isolated spot behind a construction site near Dighi in the afternoon.

Sub-inspector Rahul Bhandare of the Dighi police said the girl’s father is a watchman at the site. The arrested man is their neighbour in the construction workers’ colony. “On Monday afternoon, the girl and her elder brother were playing in front of their house, along with other children. Their parents had gone for work,” Bhandare said.

The man came there around 12.30pm and took the girl with him after luring her with a biscuit. “He took the girl to a forest, which is behind the colony,” Bhandare said. He said after some time, the mother returned home and found that the child was not with her brother.

(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
