Man held in Pune on charge of raping daughter

PUNE: A man (68) was arrested on Wednesday on the charge of repeatedly raping his 14-year-old daughter between February 18 and March 3.

Sub-inspector Digamber Sontakke of the Hadapsar police on Thursday said, “The man had threatened his daughter into submission against disclosing his acts to anybody. Still, she mustered courage and narrated her woes to her mother, following which her parents had a quarrel. The suspect also assaulted his wife. Recently, he went to fix his minor daughter’s marriage. It prompted his wife to approach the police.”

Sontakke said, “The rape survivor stated in the FIR that her father would rape her when her mother, a homemaker, would be away. Fed up with the harassment, the girl registered a complaint related to rape and sexual harassment, among other charges of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection to Children from Sexual Offences Act. The suspect was arrested soon after receiving the complaint.”

(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
