Man held in Delhi after two with fake visa to Mexico get caught

NEW DELHI: A 29-year-old man was arrested near IGI Airport for duping people on the pretext of sending them abroad.

According to police, on February 19, two natives of Haryana identified as Narender and Banka Ram arrived at IGI Airport from Turkey through Kuwait. "The airline staff handed over the duo to airport personnel for deportee clearance," said DCP (IGIA) Sanjay Tyagi.

During inquiry, police found that both had left Delhi to Mexico through Kuwait and Turkey on February 15. "When they reached Turkey, they were denied onward journey to Mexico by the airline as they were carrying fake Mexico visas and deported to India," an officer said.

A case was registered and both were arrested. During investigation, police came to know that a gang was duping people on the pretext of sending them abroad. A team was formed under the supervision of ACP Bijender Singh led by SHO Yashpal Singh. "We came to know that the two men wanted to go to the US through Mexico for employment. They came in contact with an agent, Amit Khenchi, a native of Panipat," said the officer.

Khenchi assured them a Mexico tourist visa for ₹25 lakh. Both men had already paid ₹10 lakh to him. Later, the agent was arrested near IGI Airport. "His associates and he are involved in sending people abroad illegally. They have cheated around 50 people since 2016," the officer said.

Another officer said in June-July 2021, Khenchi came in contact with an agent, Harpreet, who assured to arrange a Mexico visa from the embassy concerned for ₹21 lakh.
