Man held in custody on cocaine rap

John Lindsay, aged 50, of James Campbell Road, Ayr, appeared from custody at the town’s sheriff court on Wednesday, October 2.

He admitted being in possession of the class A drug at James Campbell Road on September 5 this year.

The court was told how the amount of cocaine found was a “small amount” but on the basis of Lindsay’s criminal record his bail was refused.

His defence solicitor, Peter Lockhart, said: “His drug problem was pretty acute up until that point but he’s much better now.

“He at a stage where he feels he has to do something about this.

“His health was poor and he was finding it difficult to get a doctor but he’s in a better place and I would invite your lordship to allow him to bail and call for full reports and a drug treatment and testing order.”

However, Sheriff Desmond Leslie said to Lindsay: “This offence occurred when you were still on licence.

“You will remain in custody pending the preparation of this report.”

Sentence was deferred until October 24 in order to obtain a criminal justice social work report and Lindsay must remain in custody until that time.

Three wraps of cocaine were found in his pocket at the time of the offence.
