
NAKHON SI THAMMARAT: A man accused of stabbing a cousin to death in a fit of jealousy has been arrested in Pak Phanang district.
Boonprasit Somsiri, 45, of Sichon district, wanted on murder charges, was taken to the Sichon police station in this southern province on Saturday after six days on the run.
The suspect had fled after his cousin Wisit Sribua, 28, was stabbed to death on Dec 16. Relatives told police that Boonprasit was high on drugs at the time.
Wisit was found dead in his house with multiple stab wounds. The suspect fled after the murder.
Pol Lt Col Suchart Meechai, deputy superintendent for investigation at the Sichon police station, obtained an arrest warrant for Boonprasit, who was later apprehended at a relative’s house in Pak Phanang district.
Police said that when he was questioned, Boonprasit admitted to stabbing his cousin. He claimed the young man had been having an affair with his wife while he was in jail on a drug charge.
After his release from jail, the suspect told police he went to Wisit’s house and asked about the alleged affair. A quarrel ensued and he became enraged. he grabbed a knife and attacked his cousin, who fell down in front of the house. Boonprasit said he then sat on top of the victim and stabbed the man several times.
The suspect is being held in police custody pending legal action.
