BENGALURU: A 38-year-old autorickshaw driver was arrested for allegedly assaulting his wife and throwing boiling cooking oil on her and their 13-year-old daughter on Sunday.
The accused is Thomas. According to police, he was irregular at work and usually spent time at home. He used to often fight with wife Anthoniyamma, 35, suspecting her character.
He came home at 1pm on Sunday when Anthoniyamma was watching TV and their daughter, Nancy Jennifer, was sleeping. Thomas heated around 500ml of cooking oil in the kitchen and assaulted his wife with a wooden piece. As she fell unconscious, he poured the boiling oil on her. Jennifer rushed to her mother’s rescue and Thomas poured oil on her as well before fleeing.
Police arrested him on Wednesday and produced him before a court, which remanded him in judicial custody.
