TIRUPATI: Tirumala police on Monday arrested a 34-year-old man from Kurnool whose modus operandi was to target sleeping children for stealing gold at busy places in Tirumala during weekends.
After a snatching case was registered at Tirumala I town police station by a group of visiting devotees on July 27, cops zeroed in on H Anantaraju, who confessed that he used to target sleeping children near the busy Annaprasadam complex area during weekends to steal their jewellery.
“Interestingly, the accused was found visiting Tirumala only during weekends when pilgrim influx to the hill town is on the rise. We appeal to visiting devotees to stay cautious of such robbers,” Tirumala additional SP B Muniramaiah said.
