MUMBAI: The Air Intelligence Unit of Customs on Thursday arrested a 25-year-old man for smuggling 537gm of gold worth Rs 25 lakh from Dubai.
Based upon a specific intelligence and digital profiling of passengers, the AIU customs sleuths intercepted a passenger identified as Moharram Ali who had arrived from Dubai. The officials said that he walked through the green channel two gold bars, without declaring the same.
While the gold bars were seized, the accused was arrested and was charged under the provisions of customs act.He was produced before the customs court and was granted bail on Friday.
Officials said that Moharram Ali is from a poor family background and he was carrying the gold bars on behest of some gold smuggling lobby for monetary considerations.
