Man held at knifepoint during robbery at town centre bank in Carluke

A man was held at knife point and robbed of a sum of cash in Carluke yesterday.

The terrifying ordeal happened on the same street a woman and three children were struck by a car just an hour later.

However, police say the incidents are not linked.

The victim was targeted at the cash point at the Bank Of Scotland on Kirkton Street at around 2pm yesterday (October 27).

It is understood the assailant threatened the man with a knife before making off with £250 of cash.

Officers arrived at the scene and scoured the area for the thief but found no sign of him.

A police spokesman told Lanarkshire Live : “Around 2.15pm on Wednesday, 27 October, 2021, police received a report of a man having been robbed at an ATM outside the Bank of Scotland in Kirkton Street, Carluke.

“Police attended and search the area but there was no trace of the culprit.

“Enquiries continue.”

A post on a community social media page claims the man fled the scene after robbing his victim, running through lanes behind the pubs in Carluke town centre.

One local pub told us police came into the bar to advise staff of the incident.

That was before emergency services raced to the scene shortly after over a separate incident.

Ten ambulances rushed to the junction between James Street and Kirkton Street at around 3.10pm where a vehicle had struck three children and a woman pedestrian.

All four casualties are being treated at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.
