Man held at gunpoint during armed robbery in Newton Heath

A man was held at gunpoint during an armed robbery in Newton Heath.

On Tuesday, (August 31), police were called around 2.30pm to a reports a gunman had approached a cash-in-transit driver on Old Church Street.

The offender ran away from the scene empty-handed after establishing that the victim wasn't carrying cash.

No arrests have been made, a police spokesman said.

In a statement, GMP said: “Officers attended and enquiries established a man, believed to have been carrying a firearm, had approached a cash-in-transit driver on the street.

“It was established that the victim had not been carrying cash at the time of the incident and the offender subsequently fled the scene empty handed.

“Enquiries are ongoing and no arrests have been made.”

The Manchester Evening News understands the driver was delivering to a pharmacy at the time.
