A menace caused alarm as he swung a golf club above his head in anger.
The incident happened in a street in Paisley and not on a golf course.
Concerned residents in George Street called in police on Friday night.
The man was seen around 11pm in the street acting in a frightening manner.
A police spokewoman said: "A man was seen in George Street, Paisley, swinging a golf club above his head.
"This was obviously causing a disturbance."
When officers arrived at the scene they arrested a 33-year-old man in connection with the incident.
He was taken into custody pending an appearance at Paisley Sheriff Court.
