A man suffered a serious leg injury after the electric bike he was riding crashed with a car.
The incident happened around 11.30am today (June 23) on Aigburth Road just outside busy shops and restaurants.
A local business owner who was outside at the time said he believed the man on the e-bike was trying to outrun police.
Merseyside Police has since confirmed no chase took place and the man crashed into a car owned by a member of the public not a police car.

The witness told the ECHO the rider on the bike was speeding down Barkhill Road onto a busy Aigburth Road.
As he got onto the busy junction, a blue car was coming through the lights.
He said: "The electric bike hit the side of the car and he came off and went flying over the bonnet.
"He seemed okay at first when he got up."
The witness said the man tried to get up and run off but couldn't due to his serious leg injury.
The business owner said the next thing he knew police had taken the man to the floor and paramedics arrived soon after.

He added: "The noise after the crash was unbearable - he was screaming in pain.
"The paramedics were with him for a good 25 minutes, working on him."
North West Ambulance confirmed a man in his 20s was taken to hospital with a leg injury.
Aigburth Road was closed for two hours but has since been fully reopened.
Today Merseyside Police confirmed the rider was seriously hurt after the crash involving a car and an electric bike at the junction of Aigburth Road and Mersey Road.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "Emergency services attended and the male rider of the bike was taken to hospital with serious but not life threatening injuries."
