Man headbutted in front of kids at Hengrove Leisure Park

A dad has been fined after headbutting a man in front of children.

Robert Dent, 38, attacked Scott Williams on December 2, at the zebra crossing close to Hengrove Leisure Park.

The defendant, of Willinton Road in Knowle, admitted the assault at Bristol Magistrates' Court on June 20.

He had driven to the leisure park with his partner and three children on the day of the incident.

Simon MacFarlane, mitigating, said: “He admits as he approached the zebra crossing there was an obscured view, and he admits he should have waited.

“He continued over the zebra crossing, and Mr Williams, who was with his own children, complained he was about to step out.”

An exchange of words followed, then Dent got out of his vehicle.

Mr MacFarlane said: “Mr Williams has strode towards him. The red mist has dropped.

“Mr Dent struck out with his head and connected with the gentleman’s face.

“He is a family man and can’t believe he finds himself in this situation.”

Mr Williams did not sustain serious injuries.

Dent told the court: “I have never been in that situation before.”

The defendant was handed 180 hours of unpaid work and ordered to pay £395 pounds including £175 in compensation.
