Police are still hunting for the two thugs who attacked the 23-year-old as he walked to the shops at West Doura Court via a lane in Whitehirst Park.

Officers are appealing for witnesses to the attack, which happened at around 8.10pm. The victim was approached by two men who verbally abused him, then punched him to the ground before making off.

The injured man was left with a fractured eye socket as a result of the attack and was taken to Crosshouse Hospital where he was treated and later released.

The suspects, both white, are in their 30s/40s and had local accents. One is 6ft tall, medium build, shaved brown hair, and wearing a blue top.

Irvine coffee shop plan knocked back for second time

The second is 5ft 5 ins in height, slim/gaunt build, wearing a black zipper jacket, blue jeans and black Nike trainers.

Detective Constable Grant Currie from Saltcoats CID said: “The injured man was heading to a local store when he was shouted at by the two men who then, for whatever reason, punched him to the ground.

“We have been reviewing CCTV in the area and have seen a number of people coming and going from the shop, so would appeal to them to call police as they may have seen the men hanging about the area or maybe running off afterwards.”
