Man has car stolen as he slept in the backseat and thought the ordeal was a bad dream

A man thought he was dreaming when his car stolen as he slept in the back seat.

Musician Justin Koerner told the News Journal he had spent a night playing music with friends in Delaware, went to sleep in his Ford Escape then had a dream involving someone jumping in his front seat.

However, he woke up to find his car had been crashed as he slept and quickly realised he had not been dreaming.

He said: "I had a weird dream that somebody sat on my head and that somebody jumped into the front seat of my car.

"It was all very surreal."

A Newark police statement says someone drove off in the car on Sunday morning and bailed from the vehicle after seeing the man sleeping in the back.

Police then say the car crashed.

Mr Koerner said he awoke and saw car treads on a lawn and a destroyed bush.

He said police appeared ready to take him away before another officer said a neighbour had security camera footage of the incident.
