Man handed suspended sentence for spate of shop thefts is jailed after re-offending

A man who was handed a suspended sentence after a number of shop thefts in Mansfield has been jailed after he re-offended.

Aaron Turner, 31, of no fixed address, first made an appearance at Mansfield Magistrates' Court on September 1 this year, after he was arrested on suspicion of a number of shop thefts around the town centre.

Magistrates sentenced him to 12 months, which was suspended for 16 months, and he was subsequently released from court.

However, he was arrested again just two days later on Tuesday, September 3 on suspicion of a further two thefts.

He returned to Mansfield Magistrates' Court the following day on September 4 and was sentenced to nine months in prison.

PC Nathan Robinson, who works with the Mansfield neighbourhood policing team, said: "This sentence is a great success and a testament to the hard work of the neighbourhood policing team and our partnership with a number of agencies in the area.

"Shop theft in Mansfield will not be tolerated by the police, our partners or the courts, and we look to deter and prosecute any offenders where possible."
