Man handed 22 years for spanner murder

Jesse Ray Penhall has been jailed for a minimum of 22 years over a murder in Adelaide's north. (AAP)

A man who bashed a murder victim to death with a spanner during an attack at a trucking yard in Adelaide's north has been jailed for at least 22 years.

Jesse Ray Penhall, 53, was found guilty of murdering David Norris after a jury trial that ended in August.

It was his second trial on the same charge after his first guilty verdict was overturned on appeal.

Mr Norris was found lying in a pool of blood in a garage at the workshop on September 10, 2017, after suffering at least six blows to the head.

The jury heard that as Penhall was striking the fatal blows, his victim was either unconscious or at least unable to defend himself.

Penhall had argued he had been acting in self-defence and did not intend to kill.

After the guilty verdict, Penhall was jailed for life with Justice David Peek on Tuesday setting a 22-year non-parole period.
