Man had his face stamped on after vodka drinks

A vodka session resulted in a man having his face stamped on.

Simon Tancott left a boot print on David Griffiths' face after the two drank together in June.

When police arrived at the scene Griffiths appeared to be comforting his victim.

The 53-year-old, of Grove Road in Fishponds, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Judge Julian Lambert imposed six months' prison suspended for two years, with 25 days' rehabilitation.

He told Tancott: "You can't blame the drink.

"You can't blame your mental health problems.

"What you did was deliberate, violent and a frightful thing to have done."

The judge said Tancott had carried out the offence in a drink-fuelled rage.

He also told him: "Keep your boots to yourself, keep a civil tongue in your head and be nice to people."

Attending Bristol Crown Court as a witness

David Scutt, prosecuting, told Bristol Crown Court Mr Griffiths suffered bruising and swelling, a cut to his right eyelid and bleeding to the white of his left eye.

He also had a shoe print on the left side of his face and a tarmac print on the right side.

Tancott behaved erratically in custody and made no comment to police, the court heard.

Catherine Spedding, defending, said her client had both mental health and physical issues.

She said he was due to address alcohol issues with a two-week detoxification programme.

Miss Spedding said: "He has expressed genuine remorse.

"Mr Tancott is appalled by his behaviour.

"He can't really explain why it happened."
