Man guilty of murder of Daniel Jeffrey, found beaten to death in Leeds flat

A man has been convicted of murder after beating a man to death in his Leeds flat.

The jury took six hours and nine minutes to unanimously find James Macken, 53, guilty of murdering 32-year-old Daniel Jeffrey.

Mr Jeffrey, who was from London, was found dead at Macken's flat in Balmoral Place at Brewery Wharf, Hunslet, on Monday, April 13 last year.

Jurors were told the victim was found with more than 100 injuries to his head and body.

Prosecutor Chloe Hudson said Mr Jeffrey had gone to stay with Macken less than a week before his death.

Macken had denied murder.

The verdict was delivered this afternoon (Tuesday) following a trial at Leeds Crown Court.

Macken will be sentenced tomorrow morning.

The prosecutor said the victim's mother is preparing a statement to be read out at the hearing.

Macken was returned to custody.
