A former community councillor from Wishaw claims he’s going round in circles in his attempts to have the local authority replace signage at a mini-roundabout in the town.
Alex Marshall has complained to North Lanarkshire Council’s roads department over a delay of months in reinstating the sign on the approach to the roundabout situated at a staggered junction at Cambusnethan Street, Kirk Road and Thrashbush Road.
The warning sign advising drivers they are approaching a mini-roundabout was knocked over by a vehicle during a collision at the start of January.
Alex, who is now retired, says he has contacted the council on a number of occasions about the issue but says they are “dragging their heels”.
He believes there could be a serious accident as the road marking on the crown of the roundabout also needs repainted, as it is barely visible to road users.
Alex said: “The pole was destroyed the week after the New Year when a car collided with it. I’ve been at the council since then to have the sign replaced and put back up. It took them four weeks to put the pole up and we’re still waiting on the sign going up.
“I don’t use the roundabout or drive that much but it’s dangerous at any time. The layout of the roundabout coming from Cambusnethan down to Wishaw – it’s almost a straight road with nothing to slow you up. We’re continually getting cars coming out of Thrashbush Road getting tooted by cars coming down Cambusnethan Street.
“And drivers who aren’t from the area won’t know that there’s a roundabout there.
“The paint on the crown of the roundabout is all worn away as well.
“I’ve made a formal complaint at the roads department in Cumbernauld.
“It’s getting worse because there’s extensive gas works going on just down the road.”
A spokesperson for North Lanarkshire Council told the Wishaw Press that the sign has been marked for replacement as soon as possible, and that the roundabout will also be repainted when weather permits.
