Man goes viral after explaining the difference between second cousins and first cousins once removed

Family trees can be very complicated, especially if you are not sure of the terminology.

However, one man has gone viral after he explained the difference between a second cousin and a second cousin once removed.

People praised the man for finally helping them understand their family tree, and the video has since been viewed over eight million times.

In the TikTok video, the man explains: "I had a lot of questions on this TikTok. I'm going to go over this one real quick.

"So here is me. Here is my dad, my uncle.

"My uncle's son would be my first cousin.

"My first cousin's son would be my first cousin once removed.

"Removed, means down by one generation.

"If my first cousin once removed had a son, he would be my first cousin twice removed.

"Now my first cousin's son and my son are second cousins.

"I hope that clears things up."

People were left stunned by the simple explanation.

One person said: "I'm almost 39 years old, and this the first time I've heard someone explain the "once removed" thing."

While a second said: "This is the first time I've ever understood a family tree thank you".

Others admitted that they always thought 'removed' meant something completely different when it came to their family tree.

They said: "I'm gonna confess I thought once removed means they were married to your fam and then got divorced."
