Man goes on violent rampage after running through airport security scanner

A man was arrested after charging through an airport's body scanner and launching at security staff.

Tyrese Garner, 19, from Texas, was caught on CCTV punching security staff at Phoenix Sky Harbor airport in Arizona, USA on June 18.

Dozens of Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents scrambled around the man to try and stop him but he continued hitting everyone in sight.

Footage shows Garner dressed in a red sweatshirt entering the airport's full body scanner before violently shoving a female member of staff to the floor.

A male TSA guard then tries to block the man from going past the checkpoint, but the assailant moves away and proceeds to punch another staff member in the face.

One officer runs to her aid and manages to wrestle the man to the floor, as dozens of other guards rush to stop the violent criminal.

Garner was arrested by police and five TSA officers were injured in the attack.

The 19-year-old was charged with suspicion of felony criminal trespassing, felony resisting arrest and five counts of misdemeanor assault, AP reports.

Police believe Garner was mentally disturbed or was under the influence at the time of the attack.

TSA issued a statement after the incident: “This unprovoked and brazen physical attack against our TSOs is unacceptable.

"We are grateful for our committed workforce and for the role they play in protecting the traveling public every day.

"We continue to monitor the safety and health of the TSOs involved in this incident and will cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation.”

Garner is being held at Maricopa County jail on a $1,500 bond and will appear in court on June 25.
