Man gets Glasgow bus lane fine nearly a year after he last visited city

A man from Aberdeen must have got the shock of his life after receiving a bus lane fine from Glasgow City Council - despite not having left the area since last summer.

He received a letter earlier this month from the council detailing the £60 charge for driving his car through the bus gate on Oswald Street in Glasgow city centre.

The letter noted the alleged contravention was captured by their cameras on February 18 this year.

The man took to Twitter to share his bemusement at the fine, tweeting: "When you haven't left the Aberdeen area since last summer, and you get sent a bus lane fine from Glasgow City Council".

Thankfully, it seems it was a genuine error on the part of the council, with the same person tweeting two days later that they had cancelled the ticket.

Back in March last year, Glasgow Live reported how Glaswegians had paid out £22m in bus lane fines since they were introduced by Glasgow City Council back in 2012 - with nearly 900,000 charge notices issued to drivers between then and December of 2019.

The council also confirmed that 170,574 appeals were received in that time, with 35,193 appeals cancelled as a result.
