Man gets 55 years for Bronzeville murder

Aug. 04--A man convicted last year of gunning down a Bronzeville man on New Year's Day 2013, then standing over his victim and firing several more shots, has been sentenced to 55 years in prison, according to prosecutors and court records.

Anthony Robinson, 23, was convicted in December in the slaying of Kelvin Jemison, who was the second homicide victim of the new year in Chicago. Two men who prosecutors alleged were Robinson's accomplices in the slaying, Clyde Jackson and Antwoine Hill, both 21, were found not guilty in a bench trial before Cook County Judge James B. Obbish, who sentenced Robinson on Friday, according to court records.

Jemison was walking in the 4500 block of South Champlain Avenue in Bronzeville on the afternoon of Jan. 1, 2013, when a dusty black car circled the block twice, prosecutors said when Robinson was arrested.

The third time around, the car stopped near Jemison and three people got out, authorities said. As two of them acted as lookouts, the third man began shooting at Jemison and a 17-year-old friend with him. They ran, and the gunman kept firing until Jemison fell, authorities say.

The gunman then stood over him and fired several more shots, prosecutors said.

Jemison lived in the 4700 block of South Michigan Avenue, a few blocks from where he was shot.

Witnesses said Robinson was the man who fired the shots.

Robinson is being given credit toward his sentence for the 897 days he's already spent in Cook County Jail since his arrest, according to court records.
