PATTANI: The Supreme Court sentenced a man to 14 years in jail for trying to bomb a power pole to cut electricity supply in Thung Yang Daeng district in 2018.

The sentence read at the Pattani provincial court on Thursday was for Isma-ae Watomo who was found guilty of attempted terror attack and dangerous explosion.

The court said that Isma-ae's DNA was found on the plastic bottle which contained explosive and on wires which were part of the time bomb tied to an electricity pole.

A villager spotted the bomb on a power pole in Moo 5 village in tambon Nam Dam of Thung Yang Daeng district on Aug 11, 2018. A bomb squad then defused it. Officials believed the bomb was intended to cut power to the whole district.

Isma-ae confessed to the crime.
