Man gave boy loose change after sex abuse

A man has admitted a string of historical sexual abuse offences against a boy. (AAP)

A Victorian pedophile once lured a victim by offering him money for his financially stricken family.

Court documents show Peter Webb, 71, handed over some loose change to a boy, then eight or nine years old, after abusing him under a bridge at Maryborough, in the state's northwest, in 1977.

Webb, then 28, had initially asked the boy if he wanted to make some money.

He has pleaded guilty to seven counts of indecently assaulting a person under 16 and one count of buggery with a person under 14.

Webb's lawyer James Fitzgerald on Friday told the Victorian County Court he had been diagnosed with a personality disorder and "used sex to cope with his mood states".

Mr Fitzgerald added his client had also suffered from alcoholism.

Prosecutor David Glynn said the victim developed post-traumatic stress disorder, depression and anger-management issues following the abuse that occurred over a five-month period in 1977.

He also struggled to sleep properly due to regular nightmares, Mr Glynn said.

Webb is due to be sentenced on April 15.
