Man fuming as home CCTV shows traffic cone hurled in street hit by parking row

A man was fuming when he checked the CCTV outside his home on a street some residents say is being hit by anti-social behaviour and parking woes.

Residents on Langdale Road in Wavertree complained parking is a "nightmare", and some woke up to find their cars scratched or keyed in recent weeks.

One resident, who asked not to be named, is no longer amazed to capture chaos on cameras installed on his home.

He said: "Half the people around here now have doorbell cameras, they have CCTV. If you're going to do something stupid, you're going to get caught."

One day this week, he said he watched a man, walking with a group, carry a traffic cone up the street before throwing it towards a parked car.

The resident blames the disruption on younger people living in the Dales area, off Smithdown Road, which is the most densely populated area in the city due to a high number of houses in multiple occupation.

But he's keen to state he doesn't blame all of the students in the area.

The man said: "Something needs to be done. I understand they've got to party.

"We all understand that, and I understand there are people that will never, ever want them to party."

He added: "It's just a complete lack of respect to the neighbours and the property surrounding them.

"Who has the right to go along someone's car and key it? Who has the right to pick up a traffic cone and just start chucking it around the road?"

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police confirmed the force received a report of criminal damage to a car on Langdale Road in Wavertree.

They said: "It was reported that the bodywork of a Citroen car parked on Langdale Road was damaged by an unknown offender on Thursday, 24 February."

Anyone who witnessed the incident or with any information is asked to DM @MerpolCC, message ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ on Facebook or call 101 with reference 22000168221.
