Man fumes as flatmate demands he cut his long hair - as she says it's 'disrespectful'

By now, we're all aware of how important it is to let people do whatever they want to their body - including how they style their hair, whether they have tattoos, and how they dress. But one man has claimed his university flatmate hasn't quite got the memo, as she's been demanding he cut his hair.

The 22-year-old man said his flatmate used to "adore" his long locks, but has now started to resent them and keeps telling him his hair "gets everywhere" and "clogs the shower", so has requested that he get a trim. However, the bloke is holding firm in his belief that he has "very little hair loss" so shouldn't need to cut his hair when his flatmate can still have hers long.

In a post on Reddit, he claimed: "I share a university flat with a girl the same age as me. We have been sharing a room for 2-3 years and are studying the same course.

"She has never shown a resentment of my hair (up until now) and even used to tell me how much she adored it and would beg me to let her play with it and style it. However, recently she has been complaining about my long hair and saying that it 'gets everywhere' and 'clogs the shower'.

"I have always listened to what she has to say but from what I am aware most of her claims are false. I think this because I have very little hair loss. I don't know why this is, but I rarely find hairs around the flat, despite her 'always' finding them."

The man also claims his flatmate thinks cutting his hair will be better for both of them, and he has been branded as "inconsiderate and disrespectful" by her and her friends for refusing.

He added: "She expects me to cut my hair saying it is 'for us' as if we are some dying couple. I have already refused to cut it, but about two days ago she had a massive rant about it and must have told her friends as I had lots of messages from them.

"To sum up the messages, I was basically being called inconsiderate and disrespectful for not cutting my hair."

Commenters on the post were firmly on the man's side, with many calling his friend's request "ludicrous" - especially as he could just be more conscious of his hair shedding to help negate the issue.

One person said: "This is a ludicrous request. There are better solutions to the hair issue, assuming there even is one and she's not just being weird.

"Don't comb or brush your hair in common areas, do it in your room. Also, comb or brush it before a shower so that any hair you'd naturally shed comes out then and not in the shower. You might also want to step up your sweeping and vacuuming game. That should negate the issue - unless she is just bizarrely jealous of your hair."

While another added: "This sounds ridiculous. But do make sure to clean the shower drain regularly, no matter how little you think you shed. That stuff gets nasty very easily."

And a third wrote: "If you were a woman I doubt she'd be demanding you cut your hair."
