Man from Manipur, wife, relative beaten up in Delhi

NEW DELHI: In southeast Delhi's Sunlight Colony area, a man from Manipur, along with his wife and sister, was reportedly assaulted up by a group of people, police said on Saturday.

The authorities were alerted at 2:30 am on Friday following an incident in Kilokari village where a man had been assaulted and subsequently hospitalized.

The victim, residing in Jeevan Nagar in Ashram, sustained injuries including abrasions on the knees, redness, and swelling in the eyes, along with swelling on the left side of the forehead.

The police investigation revealed that the victim, along with his wife and sister, was escorting a friend home during the intervening night of Thursday and Friday. While on their way, three strangers, one of whom was a woman, approached them seeking assistance in booking an Uber to Munirka since their phone batteries had depleted.

As they awaited confirmation for the ride, one of the strangers began verbally abusing and insulting the man. This escalated into a physical assault on the man's wife and sister. Subsequently, more individuals were called to the scene, and they also participated in the attack, according to a police official.

A case has been registered under relevant legal provisions, and the police are actively working to apprehend the accused individuals.
