Man found wrapped in carpet outside NYC Starbucks was shot dead, police say

NEW YORK _ A man found rolled up in a red carpet and dumped outside a Harlem Starbucks was shot, police said Friday.

The victim, identified as Anthony Lewis, 27, had been blasted in the upper body before being thrown to the curb at W. 145 Street and Bradhurst Avenue near Jackie Robinson Park around 5:30 a.m. Thursday, cops said. The medical examiner will determine the exact cause of death, but police have declared his death a homicide.

Video obtained by the New York Daily News shows two men wheeling the carpet-covered corpse through the neighborhood in a shopping cart about three hours later before abandoning it on the corner.

A passer-by on his way to the gym called 911 after he noticed a pair of feet popping out of a trash bag.

"I saw two feet _ what appeared to be feet, they had socks on them _ hanging out of a trash bag," Israel Savage, 39, told The News. "There were multiple trash bags around this package, some cardboard and a carpet. And it was all taped."

"It was heavy, so that made me suspicious that maybe it's not a mannequin," Savage said.

Lewis lived in Brooklyn. No arrests have been made.
